陈鹤琴先生在对学前儿童心理和教育长期研究的基础上，提出了结合学前儿童发展的课程组织法。这就是“整个教学法”。陈鹤琴认为，“整个教学法，就是把儿童所应该学的东西整个地、有系统地去教儿童学。”陈鹤琴先生主张采用游戏化和小团体式的教学教导儿童。
(4)课程编制的原则与方法。
1951年，陈鹤琴先生发表了《幼稚园的课程》一文。在这篇文章中，他批判了欧美国家所实行的完全从儿童出发，缺乏系统性单元教学的课程编制模式，提出了适合我国国情的幼稚园课程编制应遵循的十大原则，以及三种编制的具体方法。课程编制的十大原则：民族性、科学性、大众性、儿童性、连续发展性、现实性、适合性、教育性、陶冶性、言语性。三种具体的课程编制方法：圆周法、直进法和混合法。“适合中国国情”、“适合幼儿身心发展特点”是陈鹤琴创建五指活动课程的两大基本原则。
