行的；第三阶段是前两个阶段脱下的共24个[H]与6个氧气结合成水同时释放大量的能量，该阶段需要氧的参与，是在线粒体内膜上进行的。
无氧呼吸可分为两个阶段：第一阶段与有氧呼吸的第一阶段完全相同；第二阶段是丙酮酸在酶的催化作用下生成酒精和二氧化碳或生成乳酸。无氧呼吸在细胞质基质中进行。
