教学与智育不是一个概念，它们之间既有区别，又有联系。智育是社会主义教育的一个组成部分，教学是实现社会主义教育目的的基本途径之一。智育主要是通过教学进行，但是教学却不是智育实现的唯一途径，智育也需要通过课外活动等途径才能全面实现；教学要完成智育任务，但是智育却不是教学的唯一任务，教学也要完成德育、美育、体育、劳动教育的任务，将教学等同于智育，则容易导致对智育的途径和教学的功能产生狭窄化甚至唯一化的片面认识。
